Let’s take a moment to share our excitement for this upcoming weekend. It’s the Super Bowl and boy do we have lots planned! Sure, many people focus on their two beloved teams that made it in and all those predictions that go a long with that but let’s get real- we stopped caring when Tom Brady’s team was no longer a contender. We’re are SO much more in tune with the culture, the food, the events!!! So… let me tell you about a few things we are very excited for..
1. The City
New Orleans? Who can complain! The city is beautiful and we can’t wait to enjoy the amazing French Quarter. This will be the first time the city has hosted the Super Bowl in 10 years and since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. So don’t feel too bad when you’re spending tons of money on food, beer, and jerseys… that money will help restore the city and its’ economy. It also doesn’t hurt that it will be bustling with the anticipation of Mardi Gras. We expect lots of beads and lots of crazy.
2. The Food and Drinks
We know our favorite part of this event is concocting those perfect cocktails and noshing on those fabulous appetizers. Seems the trend this year is authentic cajun inspired apps to coincide with the South Louisiana atmosphere. Don’t feel bad about guzzling down shrimp po boys or friend buffalo oysters- this day is guilt free! Hint: Add a TON of creole spices to your dishes. Here’s an idea to get the ball rolling…
1 lb yellow velveeta cheese, sliced into 1-inch cubes
1 10-ounce can diced tomatoes and green chiles
2 tablespoons butter
8 ounces frozen crawfish tails, thawed
1 tomato, diced
1 small bunch green onions, finely chopped
What to do:
1. Melt velveeta cubes over medium heat in a large pot
2. Add can of tomatoes with all the juices
3. In a separate pan, melt butter and saute crawfish, about 2 minutes
4. Pour queso mixture into large bowl and top with sauteed crawfish, tomato, and green onions
VOILA. Impress any guest.
And for those of you who don’t want the signature cold beer on this fine holiday try this delicious cocktail to spice things up a bit…
1 oz Bacardi Superior
1 oz Bacardi Black
3-4 oz passion fruit syrup
1/2 oz Bacardi 151
1 lime wedge
What to do:
Pour 1 oz of light run and 1 oz of dark rum into a shaker. Add passion fruit syrup, juice from lime wedge and Bacardi 151. Shake mixture for 3-4 seconds. Strain the drink from the shaker into a hurricane glass filled with ice. Stick a cherry and a lime wedge onto a bar skewer for garnish.
3. The Halftime Show
Cannot tell you how excited we are for miss Beyonce to hit the stage for halftime. Lip-syncing or not that girl puts on a show. She’s hot. She’s fierce. And we cannot wait to see the fabulous outfit she wears. If this is how awesome she looks in only the dress rehearsal, we can only imagine…
And a Destiny’s Child reunion?! Enough said.
4. The Commercials
Never do they disappoint. This year costs of advertising are at their highest yet- so advertisers are looking for ways to impress. Expect longer, funnier, and hotter commercials.
